As a Hollywood therapist to celebrities and actors, I see all forms of addiction. And I know from client experiences that internet addiction is real. There have been some recent and fascinating studies conducted on this in our field. For example, a nationwide study conducted by a team from Stanford Universitys School of Medicine estimated that nearly one in eight Americans suffer from at least one sign of problematic Internet use. And The Center for Internet Addiction reports that internet addiction is now recognized as a serious disorder and is being considered for inclusion in the upcoming revision of the DSM-V.
Since the term Internet Addiction is broad, some psychologists have identified and classified sub-categories of internet addiction one of which is Facebook Addiction Disorder. According to the research firm Nielsen, the average American spends about four and one-half hours on Facebook each month. However, some people are spending much more precious time on this social networking site to the tune of 20 or more hours per week.

What we find, though, is that its not the computer, per se, that is the source of the addiction. Rather, its the void inside the sufferer that is crying out through addictive or compulsive behaviors. So the same compulsions that drive the drug, sex, or alcohol addict can do the same to users of social media.

One of the problems with social media sites like Facebook is that people feel they have a reason to be addicted because they claim theyre doing business. Some are self-employed professionals looking for clients, some are job seekers trying to network for a new job, and some are corporate employees trying to extend their companys message and brand online. All that is fine, but lets look at reality: For most people, their time on Facebook is escapism disguised as working.

Were seeing an incredible retreat into virtual worlds these days. People are hiding behind their monitors more than ever before, and their time spent online continues to climb. What this means is less human interaction, less touch, less accountability, and less human connection. That can be a sure sign of loneliness. In fact, the use of social media sites, when gone unchecked, can actually exacerbate feelings of loneliness, because they remind the user of how little interaction they truly have with others.

Are You an Addict?
Realize that just because you love Facebook or Twitter doesnt mean youre lonely or an internet addict. But you have to ask yourself what impulse drives your interest in these electronic tools. If its a desire for connection, youre better off putting down the mouse and going to visit a friend or going out and making a new one.

Many people, however, are simply addicted to their past. Theyre using Facebook to reconnect with old classmates, former lovers, and other people they havent talked to in years. They want to know what ever happened to so and so, who ended up marrying who, and what that person they once loved ended up doing in life. Theres something comforting and soothing about it. However, if youre spending an inordinate amount of time doing these activities, you may need some help.

So how much time is too much on Facebook? If youre on for more than an hour a day, you may want to look into your situation. You may indeed have a problem. Whatever youre trying to do, you can definitely do it in an hour, whether its reconnecting with people or getting business leads. In fact, if youre focused, anyone can do their Facebook updates in less than 30 minutes. Yes, Facebook is definitely helpful for business and personal matters, but do what you have to do and then sign off.

Of course, when youre lonely, you get depressed and you dont have the energy to spend your time wisely. You dont have a focus, because things arent really happening in your life. Without focus, your goals are not in alignment and you dont know where youre going. You feel a sense of emptiness in yourself or in your relationships, and you live on Facebook in an attempt to fill some void of your life.

At first its exhilarating, because you get to be an actor and live in your own temporary reality. But the more time you spend on Facebook, the more depressed and lonely you become, and you have to spend even more time online to eliminate those negative feelings. Eventually its a vicious cycle that seems to have no way out.

Break Free of Your Facebook Addiction
To get clear on your relationship with Facebook, look at what youre really doing during your time online. Chances are youll find that youre wasting more time than you are being productive. If thats the case for you, look deep within yourself to find out whats missing from your life that makes you want to be on Facebook so much.

Now, if youre spending five hours a day on Facebook and earning hundreds of thousands of dollars as a result of the connections youre making, then go for it. But lets face reality: Most people arent doing that. The majority of the time is wasted. Even if you do those one or two business social networking emails, you spend more time browsing. Youd be better off spending your time going to real face-to-face networking events and business meetings.

If your Facebook addiction is too big for you to deal with alone, you can get help from professional therapists, psychologists, and counselors. It is a treatable condition. With the proper support and guidance, you can finally turn off the computer and start living your real life again.

The definition found in the dictionary states "The usual food and drink consumed by a person or an animal" Is consuming 800 calories a day or eliminating all carbs our usual food and drink? Is 800 calories enough to sustain bodily functions? Is eliminating carbohydrates and consuming too much protein good for us? The unequivocal answer is NO!!!

So why are these diets so popular?

The number one reason is that they promise results, and they promise them fast. In today's society speed and convenience is of the essence. But do we take the time to consider the consequences and long term side effects, it's probably not high on someone's list when there losing 10 pounds a week. Have you ever imagined what life would be like as a movie star? We all love to be entertained and live vicariously through the adventures, loves, mistakes, and conquests of our favorite heroes. A good movie is one that evokes emotion and connection to the people on the screen. When we are really connected to a character in a movie, and we feel anything from love to sadness, we are inadvertently learning about people and life.

If you have had a friend with a problem, you may know how easy it is to look at their life and problems and give advice based on what you see. As long as it is not happening to me, I am able to see the problem, and usually the solution, clearly. I have sat through many-a movie with a similar type of clarity. Perched on the edge of my seat I often want to yell out Cant you see he loves you? Just go, get on the train. So, how is it that we often find it difficult to look at our own life with that same type of clarity?

By using the power of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) we can utilize tools that help us view our lifes situations from the best friend position. Or better yet, we can sit in the directors chair and direct our very own box-office hit.

So if we consider the basis behind the NLP presupposition Learning v. Blame we can see that if we blame other people or the world for our misfortunes we miss out on the opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve our consciousness. Why is this? Blaming someone or something else for our misfortunes is a very disempowered place to be. If the world is against us, then surely there is nothing we can do about it. If we want something different or new in our life we have to empower ourselves through learning. In learning about ourselves, we empower our life with choices.

So how can we learn about ourselves and empower our lives?

Here are some easy steps to becoming the star of your own life.

See Yourself on the Big Screen:

First, imagine or pretend that there is a movie screen in front of you and you are the star of this particular film. Pretend you have a remote control that allows you to Play, Stop, Rewind, Fast Forward and Pause the film.

2. Watch as the challenging situation in your life plays forward. Notice everything about the characters in the film. Notice yourself as the movie progresses and become aware of your role in the movie.

In films, the director has the opportunity to re-shoot specific scenes. Since our emotional states dictate much of how we interact and behave it is important for the emotional state of the star actor to be just right in the scene. You may notice the difference between saying I love you when you are feeling consumed with the power of love, opposed to saying I love you when you are feeling disgust or anger.

Here is your opportunity to be the director of your own film. You get to suggest any number of emotional resources that you would like the actor to try out before the scene goes smoothly. For Example, the Director may say, Okay, I would like you to do that scene again.. except this time I want you to feel loved, confident, and acceptedno matter what the words in the script say ready GO.

3. Use your remote to rewind the film all the way back to the beginning.

4. Choose the best emotions for your movie and pretend that you can see yourself becoming filled with those new emotions.

5. Now as you play the movie forward watch yourself as you interact with others from the place of the new emotions. Notice the change in the interaction. Most likely, even if the words are the samethe interaction is different.

Without planning the financial aspect, your film could be over-budgeted and may not get finished.

Getting clearance consents:

All the actors, editors, music directors and other crew members, should sign a clearance form for the film. Speak to a lawyer in the industry for tips.

Trying to get these signed after the completion of the shoot can be next to impossible, so get them signed before hand.

Cast actors that suit the role:

Casting is difficult on small budget short movies as you may only be able to afford your friends or family who work for free but have no acting skills.

If you approach acting schools, you may find some students who are willing to work just for recognition.

You should at least have a good looking pamplet made, advertising your project to draw some interest.

If you can afford a professional actor you will have someone who may portray the character you envision with the most accuracy.

Put some money on sound:

Bad quality sound effects often makes even a good short film bad to watch. Either beg, borrow or steal a boom mike, or a wireless mike, and your film will be appreciated more by the target audience.

Fix it now, rather than in post-production:

Most of the fixes on errors done at the post-production stage don't appear very good and consume a lot of time. If there has been an error in recording, shooting, framing, etc. a scene, makes sure you rectify the mistake as soon as possible if possible.

Never zoom in a shot:

Zooming is a not a good idea for a short film, unless done by a professional photographer. Using the glider of the camera, a dolly or a cut would be a better option to concentrate on a particular object rather than zooming.

Know the clichs of movies:

Many often repeated clichs in short films include the use of dream sequences, or waking up from a dream acting alarmed.

Avoid shooting outdoors at night:

Shooting outdoors at night requires good lighting knowledge to get quality footage. If you don't have experience, try to avoid night shoots by rewriting your script.

If you are experienced then go ahead but spend some money on good lighting and position your actors so they maximize on limited light. Cameras have difficulty getting quality images in low light.

Howard Cosell was a former lawyer who, as a dutiful dad, had volunteered to describe his sons Pop Warner League game for a local radio station and saw his law career quickly replaced by a new and more lucrative one in broadcasting.

Coming to the game late myself from the courtroom, on our first special together, I was anxious and excited to meet him. I went up, introduced myself and said, Howard, you and I have something in common. He said, Whats that? I said, We both started out as lawyers. He just stared at me for a moment and said, So?

That was my crash course in Howard Cosell. Howard had been characterized by sports writers for so long as a certified curmudgeon, I think he gradually began believing it himself and felt compelled to deliver the crusty, cantankerous version of himself that he was convinced the public had come to expect.

He was rehearsing a routine in Hopes dressing room and came to a line he thought could be improved upon. I happened to be standing nearby so Hope said, pointing to the joke, See if you guys can come up with something better for Howard. I noted the line and went back to the writers room where about five of us threw lines made suggestions for the others to rule on until we had ten replacements that we all agreed filled the bill.

I hurried back to Hopes dressing room with the list. Hope was checking his makeup and motioned for me to hand the list to Cosell. He took it and, slowly looking it up-and-down, said, Is this the best you could do? I could see Hope wince. He obviously resented Howards assessment of his writing staff, one of whom, Charlie Isaacs, dated back to Hopes radio days.

He snatched the list from Howard, quickly chose a new line and told me to get it to Barney McNulty to put on cue cards.

Despite his being difficult, Howard always added an air of authenticity to our sports specials, so he was invited back many times. Our NFL special in 1980 featured this quintessential Cosell segment and showcased the popular commentator at his best:

HOPE: Do you just start talking, or do I have to light a fuse?

COSELL: Robert, your facility for the jocular riposte, and your mastery of droll repartee doesnt extract a measure of risability from me.

HOPE: Howard, either thank you...or youll hear from my lawyer in the morning Howard, youre such a personality,I wouldnt even know how to describe you.

I've been doing photography since the days when we used to carry and manually set those heavy analog cameras with the film and all those little devices like photometers and timers.  Ive been a Sony fan all my life. Since then the technological advancement has brought photography to an unprecedented level of convenience and results. However, those who have the urge for the outstanding always look for better ways to improve their skills and are constantly trying new - even peculiar to the average eye - ways to achieve the desired result.

One of my favorite spots for photography is our local park, close to the beach. As I was walking the other day trying to find a subject, I saw something I just couldnt believe my eyes. A friend of mine had mounted a Helios 44M-6 58mm on his Sony mirrorless camera. Well, you heard right; old prime lenses match the Sony a6000 and literally produce amazingly sharp images!

When I asked him how he did that he explained. He was walking by an old shop the other day and saw an old camera on the display. John likes photography and hes always looking for cameras and lenses he can use to shoot portraits and street photography.

Prime lenses cost from $200 to $1500 depending on what you want to shoot. Sony has a nice 50mm prime lens (e-mount) for about $250 but why spend so much money when you can buy an old camera with a nifty-fifty lens for just under $20!

Yes, its not a joke. The store was selling the camera for $20 and even if it was working or not, you can use the lens which was in perfect condition including the focus/aperture rings and the glass. Perfect timing and deal for my friend.

To be able to test the lens though he had to wait a few days. He told me he researched online looking for an adapter but he wasnt sure which one to get. He read reviews on Amazon and decided the Fotasy M42 screw lens for Helios 44M-6 was the right choice.
